Cleveland Funeral Services & CrematoryMrs. Susan “Sue” Mae Canfield Ashworth, age 71 of Shelby, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Sue is survived by her two sons, Kevin Ashworth and wife Terri of York, PA, and Kyle Ashworth and wife Sarah of Cherry Hill, NJ; her four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nolan, Luke, and Caleb Ashworth; and her companion Armand Richard. Born April 18, 1954, in Garfield Heights, Ohio, Sue was the daughter of the late Wallace Vincent Canfield and Marguerite Mae Shadley Canfield and was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dale Ashworth, and three siblings, Marguerite Jean Springer Hamko, Wallace Vincent Canfield, Jr, and Ronald Allen Canfield.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. She graduated from Kenston High School in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1973. She was a faithful member of Lattimore Baptist Church for over 30 years. In 2014, Sue retired from Cleveland County Schools after 20 years of service. In 2019, she received the North Carolina Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service in recognition of her distinguished service with Hospice. Sue loved being outside, working in her yard, swimming in her pool, and golfing. For several years, she was active playing pickleball at the YMCA and softball with the “Silver Bells” senior team. Her greatest joy was being “Grandma Sue” and spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm – 3:00pm Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Cleveland Funeral Services. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00pm following visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Cleveland County Foundation.
