Susan Murdock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 5 to Oct. 8, 2023.
Susan Gail Murdock (69), of Williamsburg, VA, died with her children by her side, just before sunrise on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Riverside Doctor's Hospital in Williamsburg. She was born in Huntington, WV on July 10, 1954, to Robert Raymond Smith and Edna Mae Tackett Smith. She grew up in Proctorville, OH with her eight siblings and graduated from Fairland High School in 1972. Shortly thereafter, she and her former spouse (Robert Steve Murdock) moved to Hampton, VA, where they would start a family and have two children, Phillip Murdock and Carey Rachel (Murdock) Engebretson. When her children were school age, she returned to school and attended Thomas Nelson Community College where she received a degree in nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She would spend the next two decades working at Riverside Hospital (Newport News, VA) and a local doctor's office. She lived in Hampton, VA until 2021, when she moved back to Ohio to spend a year with her beloved siblings. In 2023, she moved back to the area (Williamsburg, VA) to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Robert Raymond Smith, her mother, Edna Mae Tackett Smith, her brother, Robert Raymond Smith Jr., and her brother Charles Raymond Smith. She is survived by her son, Philip Murdock (Karen) and their children, Tyler and Brayden. As well as her daughter Carey Rachel Engebretson (Lance), and her two children, Austin and Ellie. In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings, Rosaline Crum, Patricia (Tom) Pinkerman, Billy Slone, Bernice Trimarco, Richard (Pat) Smith, and Steve Smith. The family would like to thank the staff at English Meadows for the excellent care they gave Susan over the past nine months. They would also like to thank the amazing ICU staff at the Williamsburg Doctor's Hospital who took such great care of her in her final days. A private graveside will be held for Susan on Monday, November 20th in Proctorville, Ohio followed by a Celebration of Life in the evening, at a time and location to be determined.
