Susan Lee Stapleton

Susan Lee Buterbaugh Stapleton, 82, of White Oak Manor in Burlington, passed away on

Thursday, August 14, 2025.

A native of Cambria County, PA, she was the daughter of Louis Buterbaugh and Evelyn Ling

Buterbaugh, both deceased. She was co-owner of Stapleton's Market in Saltsburg, PA before

becoming a Chiropractic's assistant and X-Ray technician for Baughban Chiropractic in

Greensburg, PA. Upon relocation to NC in 2005, she was a receptionist for Biscuitville until

her retirement to spend more time with friends and family. Susan had a very generous and

caring nature, and a wonderful sense of humor. She was always willing to help out those in

need, and was a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church in Graham. Along with

her loving devotion to her family, Susan enjoyed craftmaking, as well as being an avid nature

lover. She had a particular fondness for birds and flowers.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Clayton, (Kenneth); son, Thomas (Josephine); three

grandchildren, Matthew Clayton, Owen Stapleton, and Mason Stapleton; two brothers, Terry

Buterbaugh (Nancy) and Jerry Buterbaugh(Kathy); and several nieces and nephews. She

was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Buterbaugh, and sister, Patsy Bender.

The family would like to take this time to express their heartfelt gratitude for the excellent

loving care our mother received from the staff at White Oak Manor over the years. We would

like to thank the staff at AuthoraCare for the high level of end of life care she received. Also, a

very special thank you to her two best friends, Marilyn Perkey and Jackie Stipetich who

always took time to visit with our mother every week. We want to thank Steve Dailey as well

for taking the time to visit with her and keeping her supplied with Clive Cussler books. The

love and support has allowed us to better cope with this tremendous loss. We love and

thank you so very much.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on

Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Duane Partin and Steve Dailey. The family

will receive friends immediately following the service.
