It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Suzanne Newfield, a remarkable woman whose life journey spanned nearly 79 years. Born on September 13, 1946, in Watkins Glen, NY, Suzanne left this world on May 7, 2025, in
Katy, TX. Her life was a testament to strength, independence, and unwavering love for family and her furry companions.
She grew up in Waco, Texas and later retired to
Katy, Texas in 2017.
Suzanne was a proud graduate of University High School in 1964 and furthered her education at Lon Morris Junior College for a year before achieving her dream of becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1970. Her commitment to her profession was evident in the care she provided to those in need, reflecting her compassionate heart and dedication to service. She worked for many years in nursing homes around Waco, serving elderly and infirm patients, just as she had for disabled soldiers.
In addition to her distinguished nursing career, Suzanne served honorably in the United States Army for 20 years. Her time in the military was marked by notable achievements, including receiving the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and two silver stars for National Defense. Suzanne's outstanding military appearance and bearing were a source of pride, showcasing her commitment to excellence and discipline.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Suzanne was known for her vibrant personality and fierce independence. She lived her life on her own terms, embracing the philosophy of "Do It My Way." Her spirit was infectious, and she had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around her.
Suzanne had a special bond with her dogs, whom she treated as her children. Her beloved companions, Dammit, Homer, and Buddy, were an integral part of her life and brought her immeasurable happiness. She cherished the time spent with them, and their colorful personalities mirrored her own zest for life.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her loving parents, Clifton M. Hale and Julia Faye Hale. She leaves behind a loving family, including her two brothers, Timothy Hale and his wife, Vanessa, and Patrick Hale and his wife, Karen. She will also be deeply missed by her four nieces and nephews, as well as her five great-nieces and two great-nephews, who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
The funeral service for Suzanne Newfield will be held on May 19, 2025, at 2:15 PM at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the
Wounded Warriors Project in her memory, a cause that was close to her heart.
As we say goodbye to Suzanne, we remember her as a remarkable woman who embodied strength, kindness, and independence. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of her family and her beloved dogs.
