Sylvester "Syl" Halbach, 58, of Kiel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 12th 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Syl was a husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and a friend to everyone who crossed his path. While his physical presence may be gone, the impact he made on the lives of those who knew him will last forever as he will be remembered for having the biggest heart.
Born on October 17th, 1966, at Chilton Hospital to Allen "Woody" and Christine Halbach, Syl grew up with a love for family and hard work. He graduated from Kiel High School with the Class of 1986. On December 8th, 1997, he married the love of his life, Tricia Halbach, in Jamaica, and together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and many cherished memories.
Syl's work ethic was unmatched. He worked for Meyer Family Farms before moving on to roles at Milk Specialities and Kees. Eventually, Syl returned to his roots, helping his father run their farm, where he then spent many years dedicated to farming. In 2011, Syl made a career change, entering the tire sales and service industry. After working for AJ's Tire for several years, his passion led him to establish his own business, S&H Tire Sales and Service, in 2019. True to Syl's nature, he worked tirelessly, right up until his illness no longer allowed him to.
Outside of his work life, Syl found happiness in the outdoors. Whether he was riding his motorcycle with his buddies, to snowmobiling in the fresh snow, or simply watching the sunset on Lake Winnebago with Tricia, he truly embraced the little things in life. Syl valued time spent with his family and many friends and was always ready to crack a joke or be a helping hand. He was full of kindness and generosity, which left an impact on everyone who knew him. Syl was also member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein and found his faith to be important to him.
Syl is survived by his two daughters, Rachel and Courtney Halbach, his parents, Allen "Woody" & Christine Halbach, his sisters and brother, Kim (Brien) Martin, Tim (Emma) Halbach, and Cindy Halbach (Guy), his brother-in-law, John Mathes, and sister-in-law, Sue Hauschel. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ashley (Jesse) Martin-Metcalf, Brien Martin, Caitlin Kravick, Cailee Kravick, and Huxley Halbach, Samantha (Jason) Kuske, Melissa Mathes, Jordan Hauschel, and Alex Hauschel. He is further survived by a wide circle of other relatives and countless lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Tricia Halbach, his infant sister, Cheryl Halbach, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul & Velma Mathes, and his cousin, DuWayne Halbach.
Syl's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Sharon S. Richardson Hospice; specifically Shanna and Michelle, for their compassion and support during Syl's final days. His family would also like to thank the Froedtert Radiation Oncology team at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc for their continued support and caring for Syl.
Syl's family appreciates the gesture of sending flowers and memorabilia gifts, however, a donation in Syl's name would be preferred. The family will decide at a later date what the donation will be going towards.
Funeral Services for Syl will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday February 18, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church (1702 Van Buren, New Holstein) with Rev. Azor Cigelske officiating. A time of visitation will take place at church on Tuesday from 2:00pm until 5:30pm when we will prepare for the Services at 6:00pm.
