Sylvester LaMont July 29, 1958 – February 5, 2025
Sylvester LaMont, beloved father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Specialty Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the loving presence of his daughters, Natyer "Ty" Holston and Tracina "Cina" Carter; his sons, Joshua "Josh" LaMont and Captain Boss; and Andrea LaMont, who stood by his side throughout his final months.
In April 2024, Sylvester made the decision to return to Virginia to be closer to his children and grandchildren. In those final months, his family experienced the true meaning of agape love-love without boundaries-where laughter and tears flowed freely, and they supported one another through both joyful and challenging moments. The bond they shared during that time will forever be cherished.
A Life Well-Lived
Born on July 29, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York, Sylvester later moved to Virginia and then to Kenly, North Carolina, where he spent many years of his life. He was known for his deep love of nature and his unique ability to communicate with animals, earning him the affectionate title of the "animal whisperer." Whether finding peace in the outdoors or caring for creatures big and small, his gentle spirit and appreciation for life's beauty were evident.
During the 1990s, Sylvester worked at WYBC Radio Station in New Haven, Connecticut, where he hosted his own nighttime radio show, captivating audiences with the top R&B slow jams and love songs. Known as The Guardian of Paradise, he had a warm and engaging radio presence. He also produced several popular radio commercials and comedic skits for a television variety show, showcasing his creativity and unique sense of humor.
Sylvester was an accomplished poet, known for his thought-provoking and insightful prose that captured the essence of life, love, and humanity. His humor, wisdom, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew him. He took great pride in his name, always ensuring the "M" in LaMont was capitalized-even as he checked into the hospital for the last time.

Sylvester's legacy lives on through his children: Natyer "Ty" Holston, Tracina "Cina" Carter, Joshua "Josh" LaMont, and Captain Boss; and his beloved grandchildren: Zakirah "Care Bear" Holston, Nehemiah "Neo" Carter, Jesiah Carter, Tebiah Carter, and his namesake, Ihsaan Sylvester LaMont.
He is also survived by his siblings: Dawud Malik Amin (Aliya Amin), Diana Aminah Ali, Aziza "Gloria" LaMont, John LaMont, Wayne LaMont (Emma LaMont), Linda Thornton, Theressa Ottley, Hanan "Cynthia" Amin, Michael LaMont (Kathy LaMont), and Stephan LaMont.

Also a few of his many beloved pets whom he shared a deep connection with, including Danny the Monkey, Cookie Bird the Parrot, Louie the Iguana, NoNo the Ram, DJ the Snake, and Sassy the Horse- just to name a few.
Sylvester was truly one of a kind. His siblings, nieces, and nephews all have unforgettable stories about his unique way of doing things, his quirky remarks, and his unmatched personality. He was a gentle warrior-fierce, strong, protective, and fearless-yet his humor and compassion shone through in every connection he made. His loving glance and unmistakable giggle made you feel cherished, welcomed, and understood in an instant.
