Ruth Alice Beem Ruth Alice Beem, 83, of Burton, passed away from this Life on Friday, November 22nd, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia, under Hospice Care, Family were in attendance. Graveside services will be in the Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 1:00. Ruth Alice was born May 21st, 1941, in Cambridge, Ohio, a daughter of William Henry Kuhn and Ruth Alice King Kuhn. Early on, during her childhood, her Family lived in Zanesville and often needed to travel to find work, what we called "one more trip to California". She remembered picking cotton by the sack and fruit, with her brother Bill. Her brother Chuck climbed a cactus, once. The adobe kilns glowing in the desert night. Spending time at a girls home in Arizona. Later she was raised from the age of nine to her graduation at Roseville High School, in the Avondale Children's Home it was a very structured life with 52 girls and boys, having many benefits of a working farm life, attending school, 4H, the Grange, Rolling Plains Church and the County Fair. She stayed in contact with her three brothers Bill, Chuck and Jerry from the time she was married and she had 4 children Chris, Jean, Yvonne and Nathan whom she raised, teaching them to love Family, work hard, and believe in God through not only words but through her own living of Life. She served on the selective service board during the Vietnam War, and ran the draft board out of New Lexington for Perry County. Later she moved with her children to Burton, South Carolina with the assistance of her brother Bill and his Family, he was serving in the USMC. She worked years as a secretary and eventually was employed as part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation aboard Parris Island. During this time she met her husband John Charles Beem whom she called "Jim" and enjoyed Life in the South. Jim called the front of the yard "the North 40". They enjoyed going to softball games, and cooking at home. She attended the Technical College of the Lowcountry, and left early to assist with raising one of her grandchildren. Late in life she enjoyed years driving with her husband "Jim" with long haul trucking across the United States and into Canada, Jim often mentioned they were on vacation and that the company was paying him for their travels, until one trip home when Jim was diagnosed with terminal cancer, they retired to their home. She met and was reunited with her sister Barbara, and her brother Larry late in life, enjoying seeing, hearing, and visiting with them. She spent many years after Jim's death enjoying her home among their gardenias, azaleas, mighty oaks, as well as a lot of Family time with Family members, especially during the holidays. Throughout Life, Ruth Alice was soft spoken, kind, thoughtful, considerate and loving, she will be missed in this Life, and we await to reunite with her again! She was preceded by her parents, and two of her brothers; Chuck early in Life and later Larry, and her husband Jim (John Charles). Surviving all of whom she loved and cared about deeply: are her brothers and her sister, Bill with his wife Libby; Jerry with his wife Ida; Barbara with her husband David. Her four children Chris, Yvonne with her husband Ron, Jean, and Nathan. Along with her 13 Grandchildren, and 23 Great Grandchildren. All of them were remembered with photos, memories and talks, especially during the last months of her life. She enjoyed sharing her memories, stories and pictures with her Family in a closed Group on Facebook; and enjoyed hearing others share theirs. In lieu of flowers or donations please send flower seeds, flowers, dogwood or Japanese red maple to plant and grow in the yard.
