Sylvia Cantrell Obituary
Affectionately known as Geekgaw to her grandchildren, friends and neighbors, Sylvia is survived by her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. This includes Rosena's children: Paula Buras (Brian), Pamela Musacchia (Tony), Priscilla Dardar (Jesse), and CJ "Kid" Seruntine (Madison). This also includes the gone-to-soon Brenda's children: Lonnie (Julie), Christian (Tiffany) and Nikki Borrouso Park. Forever beloved by her great-grandchildren: Colin, Victoria, Gaige, Layla, Lonna, Andrew, Jace, Payton, Olivia, and Charlotte. We would like to give special thanks to Cheryl and Tony Musacchia, III as Sylvia felt they were more like family than friends.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Sylvia was married to the late Leon Cantrell. She worked in tech data for Textron Marine until her retirement. She was a proud parishioner of St Bernard Parish for the last 43 years. For the last 22 years, she enjoyed living with her daughter Rosena and son-in-law Chuck in Arabi. Sylvia was best known for her quick wit and open heart for all of her babies. She most cherished doting over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren including many Disney trips and home-cooked meals. She made sure no one ever left our home hungry. In her final days, she was only concerned for the well-being of her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 12:15 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM. Interment will be in St. Roch #2 Cemetery.
