Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvia White Cliburn of Brandon, formerly of Silver Creek, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel with inurnment following in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery in Silver Creek. Mrs. Cliburn, age 85, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Thursday morning, March 6, 2025, surrounded by her family at her home. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends Saturday, 1 hour prior to the funeral service, beginning at 12:00 Noon at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Sylvia was born on December 15, 1939, in Rome, MS, to Mary Willie Ellis-White and James Alford White. She graduated from Drew High School, Class of 1958, where she made life-long friendships. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln with interests in accounting and, later, computers. Sylvia accepted Christ as her Savior at the very young age of 7 years old. After many years of service to the MS Department of Health-Water Division, she retired in April 2004. She is a member of Faith Baptist Church in Silver Creek, where she was one of the founding members, Secretary/Treasurer for many years, and a fill-in song leader.

Sylvia loved her family dearly, and she was very proud of each of her children and grandchildren. She was most happy sitting on the front porch watching birds and enjoying her cats. She will always be remembered with her big smile when loved ones planned surprise visits and blew kisses to them as they left.

Mrs Cliburn is preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell Cliburn and her brothers, James (Jim) White and Ronnie White.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Michael Derek Barrentine of Houston, TX, Joel Allen Barrentine of Star, and Mary Alicia Lilley-McAlpin (Hank) of Brandon; her sister, Jan Funderburk Garrison (Brent) of Minter City and her sister-in-law, Dena White of Sterlington, LA. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Victoria Barrentine Parish (Jake), Memory McAlpin-Loupe (Peyton), Chaney Barrentine, Jamie Barrentine (Maddie) and Cassidy McAlpin and 4 great-grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank her caregivers, Anna Ladner of Brandon, Cindy Thornton of Carthage, and Toni Fernandez-Stout of Jackson, for taking care of her sweet soul. They also wish to express gratitude to AccentCare and Hospice. Each caregiver treated Sylvia as their own by bringing treats, shopping, and taking road trips.

In addition, there was a special place in Sylvia’s heart for Perseus, an emotional support dog owned by Toni. Their remarkable bond brought comfort and joy, particularly during times when Sylvia needed it most. The family's warm memories include how Perseus would instinctively seek her out during visits, resting by her side. His gentle presence was a source of love and affection that brightened Sylvia’s days and remains embedded in the hearts of her loved ones.
