On July 4th, while we were all celebrating here on earth, there was a great reunion for Sylvia L. Maurer. Sylvia was born on February 8, 1926, in Cincinnati, to Harry W. Knue and Marie Pessler Knue. She was the third of 16 children. At a young age she loved babies and with 13 younger siblings she had practice. She married James Robert Maurer on June 18, 1949, and together they started their family and were blessed with 5 children: James, Daniel, Mary Jane, Thomas & Judy. Sylvia was always there for her children and as they got older, she volunteered at St. Al's on the Ohio with numerous tasks: festival, counting money, working in the library are just a few. She was faithful and generous to those that needed help. Sylvia never had a bad word to say about others. She enjoyed the home she created for her and Jim and never liked to travel except for short trips out of town. After her husband passed in 2005, she had a hard time doing the things they did together.
Sylvia's memory will live on with her children: James Maurer, Daniel (Sherry) Maurer, Mary Jane Fishwick, Thomas (Toni) Maurer & Judy (Herb) Lehan; cherished grandchildren: Kristy Maurer, Kelly (Taylor) Maurer, Jimmy Maurer, Kevin (Angel Cobb) Maurer, Andrea (Randy) Gately, Jason Brenan, Julie (Shawn Donovan) Fishwick, Melissa (Steve) Buchanan, Matt (Jenn) Fishwick, Nicole (Rob) Hedrick, Jeremy (Dani) Keil, Tori Keil, Jake Maurer, Lauren (Quinton) Nibert, Nick (Alex Paulchell) Lehan, Katie Lehan, & Kristen Lehan; beautiful great grandchildren: Dade Maurer, Sydney & Brenan Gately, Gabby & Jaxson Fishwick, Nathan Buchanan, Maddie Jones, Layla Hedrick, Grayson & Everly Nibert. Also survived by siblings: Mary Ann (late James) Spille, John "Sonny" (late Sue) (Linda) Knue, Martha (Ron) Lauck, Donald (Kathy) Knue, Edward (Vicki) Knue, Vincent (Diane) Knue, Paul (Peggy) Knue; & sister-in-law: Mary Anne (the late Arthur) Leesman.
Preceded in death by her parents: Harry & Marie (nee Pessler) Knue; siblings: Ruth (Robert) Schilling, Doris (John) Maurer, Rita Knue, Helen (James) Gurriere, Barbara "Bobbie Jo" (Harry "Junie") Skilbeck, Monica (Dick) Paff, Joseph Knue, & Raymond (Inita) Knue.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Aloysius on the Ohio, 6218 Portage St, Sayler Park, OH 45233. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius on the Ohio. A funeral home representative will be able to assist you with your donation at the services. If you are unable to attend, please mail your memorial directly to the funeral home.
