In Loving Memory of Sylvia Jean Clark Taylor
May 22, 1955 – May 31, 2025
On Sunday, May 22, 1955, in the quaint town of Belle Glade, Florida, Ernestine and James Clark, Sr. welcomed their only daughter-Sylvia Jean. By divine providence, her birthplace became a metaphor for her life: her soil would be her fortune.
Soon after her birth, the Clark family relocated to Port Salerno, Florida, where they laid permanent roots and became an integral part of the rich and unfolding legacy of the beloved New Monrovia community. Raised with deep values of faith, family, and service, Sylvia carried those principles throughout her life.
A proud product of the Martin County School District, Sylvia moved with grace and excellence through her academic years and graduated in 1973 from Martin County High School. Soon after graduation, she joined the workforce as a receptionist at The Workforce Development Board. Over the next 38 years, through commitment and excellence, she rose through the ranks to retire as the agency's Executive Administrator.
Though she never had biological children, Sylvia embraced her divine assignment as a surrogate mother and mentor to more than a dozen individuals. With a unique blend of firm counsel and tender care, she poured out extravagant generosity and unwavering support-fulfilling what she believed to be her life's ministry.
For 20 years, until her health began to decline, Sylvia faithfully served as Executive Pastor of City Church and Personal Assistant to Bishop Ricardo Weaver, Sr. (RDW Ministries). In these roles, she demonstrated unmatched loyalty and stewardship. Bishop Weaver became the son she never physically bore but embraced in her heart and spirit as both son and leader-an assignment she accepted from God with deep devotion.
Throughout her life, Sylvia served in various leadership roles that reflected her innate gifts of coordination, administration, and governance. These included Secretary of the New Monrovia Community Development Cooperation, President of M.I.S.S. Inc. of the Treasure Coast, Assistant Secretary of the MCFO Family Reunion (Orlando Chapter), and, in her retirement, Supervision Assistant at the Salvation Army's Compassion House homeless shelter.
In the peaceful evening hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025, Sylvia transitioned to eternal rest in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mother Ernestine and James Clark, Sr., and two brothers, Edward W. Clark and James E. Clark, Jr.
She leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, faith, and service. Those who remain to cherish her memory include: Surrogate sons: Bishop Ricardo Weaver, Sr. (Krystal) and Ricardo Weaver, Jr.; Brother: James W. Clark (Renee); Siblings-of-the-heart: Rev. Melva Wilson (Deacon Alex), Albert Oliver, Jr., and Dr. Beverly Johnson; Nieces and nephews: Victor Clark, Kenesha Clark, Kiandra Clark-Gilliam (Jason), Edward Clark (Denise), Angelica Clark, Jazmin Clark, Jayme Clark, Janell Clark, Kareem Chivers (Kemba), Nicholas Chivers (Natasha), and James Carter, Jr.; Uncles and aunts: James Oliver, Abraham Oliver (Pat), Geneva Houston, Barbara Stringer, Apostle Abbie Knight (Keith), Joe Louis Oliver, and Kenneth Clark; Best friend of 50 years: Minister Gailya Delancy (Ted); Phenomenal caretakers: Kizzy Rucker and Alexandra Johnson; Her beloved church family: City Church, Stuart, Florida; and a host of relatives and friends.
Pastor Sylvia Jean Clark Taylor was a woman of strength, grace, and profound impact. Her earthly ministry has ended, but her legacy will continue to blossom in the lives of all she touched.

In 1968 Sylvia was a fifth grade student in my class in Port Salerno Elementary school. It was my first year teaching in Florida. In 1987 I went to work at the Workforce Board and for the next 20 plus years was honored to work with Sylvia. She was a gentle soul always ready to help. As a receptionist always pleasant and accommodating. Sylvia was a loving
person and I will hold many memories of our years working together.
