T. Dick Fleming, 90, of
Clinton, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the Lee's Summit Medical Center in Lee's Summit, MO. Dick Fleming was born in the small community of Annona, Texas on December 29, 1934, the son of Eldredge Fleming and Lillian (McGill) Fleming. Dick had a brother, Eldredge, and a sister, Virginia. Both have preceded him in death.
He grew up in the Annona community and attended Annona School and on to East Texas State College, now known as Texas A & M of Commerce. After graduating college he took and job with the Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs and Dallas, Texas.
His journey into medicine began in Dallas, TX in 1963, three days after President John Kennedy was assassinated. He was employed with the Dallas County Medical Society until 1968. He then went to work for the Southwest Clinic in Dalla in the summer of 1968 to learn and develop a new computer billing system, Medical Computer Systems, which was a forerunner of a nation wide computer billing system. He left Southwest in 1971, moving to
Clinton, MO to manage a seven man group, Wetzel Clinic, and build a new clinic building. From 1971 to 1999 Dick managed and built three medical clinics in Clinton, Warsaw and Garden City, MO. He also built and managed Clinton's newest and last built nursing home, Westwood. For one year, 1971 to 1972, Dick managed and closed the Wetzel Hospital to make room for the new Golden Valley Memorial Hospital. During the almost 40 years of management, over 20 doctors were recruited for the area.
Dick was President of the Chamber of Commerce of Clinton in 1974, Industrial Promotion chairman, President of the area transportation service in 1974, led the Up With People youth organization from 1972 to 1974, President of the Missouri MGMA in 1981, member of the Clinton Redevelopment Corporation from 1985 to 1990, Board of Directors of "Risk Control Insurance" from 1988 to 1991, Chairman of Main Street Financial Committee in 1989 and 1990, committee member of the Truman Regional Learning Center since 2005. He was on the Board of Directors of Kaysinger Regional Planning from 2009 to 2021, was chairman of the Industrial Development Association of Clinton from 1994 to 2014, and was a board member of the Community Association of Regional Enterprises, Inc. Dick was involved in the Missouri Advisory Board of Multi State Transportation Systems from 1976 to 1983, Chairman of 7-13 Highway project Coalition from 1988 to completion, and Vice Chairman of the 13 Warrensburg Coalition from 2006 t0 2010. Dick was instrumental in securing State Fair Community College to come to Clinton and was a member of the C.A.R.E. board. He was a member and active in numerous other community boards. He has been published in the Dallas Medical Journal, Dialogue Magazine, Cooperation magazine, The Harbinger and the Rural Primary Care newsletter. He has been a guest speaker at many Group Management meetings all across the United States.
Three projects he is most proud of are the remodeling of the Wetzel Clinic building and bringing State Fair Community College in the community providing a real campus for the school, the 1974 completion of the Harry S. Truman Dam, with over 20 trips to Washington, D.C., to testify before the House and Senate appropriations committee, (at the time he was President of the Upper Osage Grand River Basin Association Lobby organization), and finally the over 30 year effort to bring Highways 13 and 7 four lane highway to Clinton and beyond.
He married Nancy Helen (Bowen) Krell in
Clinton, MO in 1998. She survives of the home. Additional survivors four children, Michael Fleming, Laura Kaye Wilson, Eric Krell and Jenn Hayes; seventeen grandchildren, Adam Butler, Nena Stockdall, Jacob Fleming, Scott Fleming, Dalton Hayes, Macy Hayes, Matthew Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Emily Wilson, Taylor Wilson, Tiffany Wilson, Brian Wilson, Carsen Krell, Ashlyn Krell, Graysen Krell, Jacki Rush and Terri Ozinga.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Dickson Fleming.
Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Clinton Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., just prior to the Celebration. Interment will be at a later date in Englewood Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Clinton Animal Shelter, Clinton Methodist Church Youth Program or the
