April 5, 1929 - December 30, 2024 Gothenburg, Nebraska Theodore Allen Haney, 95, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 30, 2024 in Kearney, Nebraska.
Ted was born at home in Lexington, Nebraska on April 5, 1929, son of William Theodore and Marie Camilla (Chambers) Haney.
Ted and his family lived in Elwood, NE throughout his elementary years. The family moved to Gothenburg in the early 1940s where Ted graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1947. After graduation, Ted worked for the city of Gothenburg and Ford Garage before enlisting in the Navy at the age of 21. Ted served in the Navy, stationed in the Philippines.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1954, Ted met and married the love of his life, Bettie Lee Brown. They were wed on September 30, 1956. Two years later, their first daughter, Angela Kay, was born. In 1960, they were blessed again with another daughter, Holly Lee. Together the four of them shared love, laughter, and an unbreakable bond.
Ted enjoyed many interest throughout his life. He was an active member of the Methodist Church for 75 years where he served on various committees and looked forward to the fellowship with the congregation. Ted was an avid and lifelong reader. Once he retired, Ted logged that he read over 2,000 books. He also loved Cornhusker football and was able to enjoy watching the Huskers win their recent bowl game.
Of all his interests and hobbies, his favorite hobby was doting on his beautiful wife and children, especially his grand children and great-grand children.
Survivors include wife, Bettie Haney of Gothenburg, NE; two daughters, Angie (Bob) Sermak of Strongsville, OH, Holly (Bernie) Neibauer of Great Falls, MT; sister, Susan Bacon of Gothenburg, NE, four grandchildren, Shelby (Sermak) Reveal, Kyle Neibauer, Jake Sermak, and Shannon (Neibauer) Boyer; seven great-grandchildren, Joey Garey, Ridge Neibauer, Mathias Boyer, Scout Neibauer, Blaise Boyer, Theodore (Teddy) Sermak, Barrett Reveal.
Theodore was preceded in death by his parents, William Theodore and Marie Haney; brother, Bill Haney.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, January 6, 2025, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, January 7, 2025 at 10:30 am with Pastor Grace Gichuru officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Gothenburg or the Gothenburg Senior Center Meals on Wheels program.
