Ted Wild Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Oct. 6, 2022.
Ted Wild, referred to by many as Coach, passed away on Saturday evening, October 1, 2022. It was the perfect setting, and just the way he would have wanted it. OSU took the win over Baylor that afternoon. A short time after, his wife, two daughters, and two little granddaughters were all together playing music and dancing when he peacefully left this earth to go to his new home in heaven. No doubt he was escorted in the finest custom golf cart.
Theodore Nick Wild (Ted) was born to Pauline and Herman Wild, May 1, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. Ted loved sports and played everything from hockey and speed racing on ice to football and baseball. His father never missed a game and his mother often worked as the equipment manager. He excelled in swimming and baseball, ultimately deciding to accept a swimming scholarship to Eastern Michigan University. In 1965, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a minor in speech. Right after college, he took a job as a swimming coach at a high school in Detroit.
He spent a few years teaching then took a break from that to be in the jewelry business. For the next twenty years he sold jewelry and lived in different parts of the country. Eventually, he landed in Houston where he met his wife, Michelle. They were set up by mutual friends on a blind date in 1988 and the rest is history. Ted always joked, "I thought I liked short blondes until I met Michelle!" They were married in the spring of 1991 in Houston, Texas. He was told he would never be able to have children, but in late 1991 they welcomed their first child, Cheyenne. Two years later, Savannah was born.
After a few years in Houston, Ted and Michelle moved the family to Michigan to help take care of his mother and aunt. There he began teaching and coaching at a Christian school, and he knew he found his calling. In 2001 he and Michelle moved to Oklahoma, and he started working at Oklahoma Christian School. He served there for nineteen years as a teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. During the summer he worked at the Oklahoma Foundation for the disabled. After leaving OCS in 2020, he continued serving by working with special needs children in the transportation department of Edmond Public Schools. Friends refer to Ted as the "quiet servant." He loved God. He loved his wife and daughters. And after that, he loved working behind the scenes, often doing jobs no one else wanted to do to make sure things ran smoothly.
Ted is survived by his wife, Michelle Wild; daughter Cheyenne Wild; and daughter, Savannah Stutes and husband, Miles.
A memorial service to remember and celebrate Ted's life will be held Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10:00AM at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond.
