Ted Wayne Auwen aka Teddy Wayne was born on March 20, 1953, to Ted and Frances Auwen. He left this earth on June 6, 2025, with his mother holding his hand and his sister by his side after a brief illness.
He grew up in Del City and graduated from Del City High School in 1971. He received his teaching degree at Southwestern State University in Weatherford in Instrumental and Voice Music. He first taught bands in Medford and Woodward. While at Woodward his marching band was invited to march in Jimmy Carter's Inauguration Parade. His love of teaching took him back to Southwestern and he earned his master's degree in music. He moved to Tulsa and taught in the Tulsa Union School District. He was teacher of the year one year. He loved to be a sponsor for the Special Olympics Students in the district and went to Stillwater every year he could. His last years of teaching were teaching vocal music at Darnaby and Boevers Elementary Schools. While at Darnaby, John Denver brought his Christmas Show to Tulsa and Ted was asked if he would like to bring his "Rangers and company" to back John Denver. And he didn't say no. He was involved with a lot of plays and concerts that were performed by all the schools in the district. He helped with sewing costumes and putting on makeup and changing out sets. Also, he performed in the Tulsa Performing Art Center different plays that they would do. If not performing in them he made costumes for the different plays and along with makeup, set designs and sometimes all three.
He also worked part time at Walgreens in their photo lab. He used his eye for design in producing different forms of picture for different seasons including calendars, invitations and collages.
After retiring from teach he moved back to Del City, he continued to work for Walgreens for a while in the photo lab like he did in Tulsa. In the last few years, he would spend the day with Mother and did her laundry and cooked for her. Some of the items that they both loved were a fried egg on toast or a scrambled egg sandwich with mustard, and don't forget the bacon had to be in there somewhere. For the afternoon break a glass of buttermilk. And then he would cook dinner for them and his sister when she got home. He was so excited that Mother was turning 100 this year. And he missed it by one week. We are not exactly sure what he had planned, he didn't share it with us. He loved sharing modern technology with his Mother and he would keep her up to date on the Royals in England, funnies posted on Facebook, and don't forget politics.
He is survived by his mother Frances Auwen, Del City and his sister Charlotte Auwen, Del City, his cat Thomas who has become a barn cat, and cousins & friends. He is preceded in death by his dad Ted W Auwen, grandparents, uncles, aunts and numerous fur babies.
