A Journey of 78 Years, 48 States, and Endless Love – The Story of Terry Mills
Terry Raymond Mills, 78, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, July 21, 2025 under the care of Stein Hospice.
Born on April 7, 1947, in Willard, Ohio, Terry was the beloved son of the late Clarence Raymond and Mary Luella (Duffey) Mills.
A 1965 graduate of Willard High School, Terry later attended Bowling Green State University for two years. From an early age, he was a hard-working and dedicated man, beginning his career at Hills Department Store at just 17 years old, where he worked until the age of 32. He went on to serve as a manager for Periodical Publishers and Hearst, where he remained for over 25 years before retiring.
Terry was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for his generous heart. He was a loving and giving man who always put others-especially his family-before himself. His selflessness and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Whether through his steady presence, kind words, or thoughtful acts, he made sure those around him felt cared for and supported.
Terry was a faithful member of The Chapel and enjoyed spending his time outdoors, working on puzzles, woodworking, and making memories with his family. He was deeply proud of having traveled to 48 out of the 50 U.S. states, always hoping to one day visit Hawaii and Oregon. Traveling, like much of his life, was about creating experiences with those he loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara (Burr) Mills, whom he married on September 13, 1969. Together, they built a life filled with love and dedication. He is also survived by his children, Kevin (Theresa) Mills and Kimberly (Thomas) Moore; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Rob), Raven, Hayleigh, and Kevin Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Rosalynn. He also leaves behind his sister, AnnSherry (James) Murphy, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Rose.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 4pm until the time of the funeral service at 6pm at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
Terry will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the countless memories shared by those who loved him most.
