Terry Earl Norman passed away March 27, 2026, at his home in Buchanan Dam, Texas, after a yearlong valiant confrontation with a rare and aggressive cancer. Terry was born December 30, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas to Earl and Margaret Norman. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1962 and went on to graduate from West Texas State University with a degree in business and marketing. Following his dream, he immediately moved to Colorado Springs and began a successful career in sales with a pharmaceutical co, then Denver Burglar Alarm and later with VALIC.
Terry grew up camping and fishing in the mountains of Colorado and continued that love of fishing all of his life. If there was water, he would fish it, big water, little water, it didn’t matter. He passed that love and many more wonderful traits to his son, Trent, who was his favorite fishing buddy.
Though Terry grew up in town, at every opportunity he was on the farm of one of his aunts and uncles. He and his cousin, Lee Mason, were as close as brothers, a blessed relationship that has continued throughout their lives.
During college he worked at a boat shop and caught the racing bug. He loved both boat and car racing and for years built and drag raced VW Bugs. Until the end, if there was a race on TV he was watching or recording it to watch later.
Terry had a natural ability to design and build just about anything, from an awesome home in the mountains of Monument, Colorado, to an innovative boat top carrier that had people gawking as they drove down the road because it rode right side up on top of the truck. And he was “the go to guy” always helping whoever needed help to figure out and fix a broken pipe, or add onto a house, or design and build retaining walls, or replace a water heater, or knock out a wall and add a window. He loved the challenge and loved helping make a problem go away.
Terry was married to Bonnie Jean Norman for almost 50 years and despite her battle with ongoing health issues, he kept them traveling all over the country making friends and sharing love and life and lots of laughter. He was devastated by her sudden passing 7 years ago. In the last 4 years of his life, he has been blessed with the love and companionship of a second sweet lady, Patricia Ann Taylor. They were always on the go and Patty has been by his side during this last challenging year.
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, and his parents, Earl and Margaret Norman. He is survived by his cherished son, Trent Earl Norman, of Amarillo; grandchildren, Mitchell
Anthony and Taylor Elizabeth; and his sister, Paula Cutchin and her husband, Ed Cutchin, of Marble Falls, Texas.
Terry will be honored in a graveside service in Amarillo on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
