Obituary of Terry Owen
Long time Fort Worth resident, Terry Owen passed away at her home on 20 June 2024.
Born in 1938 in Port Arthur, Naomi Ruth Walker was the first of five children to her father Burel P. Walker and mother Sarah Walker (Harris). She grew up during the recovery from the great depression as an independent, capable, and intelligent woman.
She was a working mother whose drive and capabilities enabled her to concurrently raise four children and build a successful career in retail management. She managed department and regional sales in the cosmetic industry for Leonard's, AAFES, Revlon, and others throughout the sixties and the seventies. After returning from their assignments in Europe, she also worked in nursing and retail management for patio and garden furniture.
She spent most of her years as a military spouse with a life closely tied to the Carswell Air Force community. She was also able to pursue her love for travel, exploring most of Europe during her husband's foreign assignments at bases in Greece and England. Her memories were always reflected in her home that was decorated with unique items, big and small, that she had collected during, or as a reminder of her travels abroad.
Throughout her life she was a curious and an agile learner. Through self-study and practice she developed knowledge, skill, and experience in a broad range of disciplines, often outside the industries of her career. Notable among those was her passion for remodeling homes. Beginning before DIY was a trend, and continuing into her seventies, Terry confidently tackled any type of project for every home she ever owned or lived in.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, William Owen; her sisters, Geraldine Ann Walker and Patricia Ulsh; her brother, Burl Walker; and granddaughter, Christina (Honzell) Strelow.
She is survived by her sisters, Gwenda Grimes and Carolyn Bussey; her daughter, Angela Walsh; her sons, James Sammons, Richard Sammons, and Robert Sammons; her grandchildren, Ryan Sammons, Robert Sammons, Nora Sammons, Pierce Sammons; great grandchildren, Hailey Honzell, Ryan Sammons, Peyton Sammons, Taylor Sammons, Rhett Sammons, and Reid Sammons; and many nieces and nephews.
Her children are planning a celebration of life for Terry in late summer. They will share the details once the date and location have been arranged.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of my Aunt Terri. She was always so beautifully put together. I remember my interactions with her fondly, especially her helping my oldest daughter, Ashley, get ready for my wedding. Though I tried to maintain contact with her over the years via cards & letters, we unfortunately lost touch. I pray she is peacefully at rest. My thoughts & prayers are with all of the family.
