Terry S. Viets

Terry S. Viets, 73, passed away on March 5, 2025, at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, KS, after a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on August 8, 1951, in Girard, KS, she was the daughter of Elwyn and Elda (Meyer) Viets.
Terry spent most of her life on the family farm in Brazilton, KS. She graduated from Girard High School in 1969 and continued her education earning a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's degree from Pittsburg State University.
Terry began her teaching career at Altoona-Midway before moving back to Girard, KS, in 1977, where she dedicated herself to teaching high school math, typing, and computer science classes at USD 248. During her tenure, she served as a class sponsor, Y-Teens, and Kayette Sponsor, and played a vital role in organizing the annual Mother-Daughter Tea. She retired from teaching in 2006.
A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, Terry sang in the church choir, played in the bell choir, and actively participated in youth activities and midweek meals.
In her earlier years, Terry enjoyed water skiing with her family at Farlington Lake, snow skiing, vacations, crafting, and spending time with her nieces. She had a particular love for horses and ponies.
Terry will be remembered by many for her tremendous talent of decorating the family farm equipment with lights during the holidays. She spent countless hours for many years preparing amazing light shows for many passersby's.
Terry is survived by her brothers, Tim "Opie" Viets (wife Rhonda) and Mark Viets (wife Kim), both of Girard, KS; sister-in-law Lora Viets, wife of the late Michael Viets; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwyn and Elda Viets, and her brother Michael Viets.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Hofmann officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Brazilton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Monday.
