Thad Alan Smotherman, 76, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on January 18, 2025. A beloved husband, father, and community member, he was born on July 31, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Don and Dorothy Smotherman.
Having attended Riverside High School in Fort Worth, Thad furthered his education at Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Christian University (TCU), ultimately becoming an honorary graduate of Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Thad's professional journey began at ABC and transitioned into a successful career as a private entrepreneur.
Throughout his life, Thad engaged with various clubs and organizations, including the Willow Bend Polo Club in Plano, Texas, and the Polo Club at NPC in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was proud to be a member of the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth and served as a circuit judge for the Miss America Pageant Organization. A passionate sports fan, Thad enjoyed golfing and playing polo in his younger years. He remained a dedicated supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and an avid collector of sports memorabilia.
Thad's faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mansfield, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dorothy Smotherman.
Thad is survived by his devoted wife, Dr. Alicia Wilkerson-Smotherman, and their cherished daughter, Hillary Smotherman. He is also survived by his dear cousins, Suzanne Sellers-Greene, Jackie Turner, N. Jan Smotherman-Davis, and Barry Leath Smotherman.
Thad's life was marked by love, ambition, and community involvement, leaving behind indelible memories for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held on February 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013 followed by a burial at Greenwood Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Thad’s remarkable life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the First Methodist Church of Mansfield, Texas, or the American Cancer Society of Texas.
