Thaddious Coleman Smith, a lifelong Plantersville resident, died on October 11, 2025 at 97 years old.
He was born in Lawley, Alabama, to Charlie and Crola Smith. After high school, he served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Juanita McAfee and they were married for 40 years. Coleman retired from R.L. Zeigler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita McAfee Smith; daughter, Collette Smith McLaughlin; parents, Charlie and Crola Smith; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Rena McAfee; sons-in-law, Bobby McLaughlin and Tommy Posey; daughter-in-law, Deborah Nichols Smith and granddaughter-in-law, Shelby Vinson.
He is survived by his sons, Chris Coleman (Shelia) Smith and Ed (Janet) Smith; daughter, Joy Smith Posey; grandchildren, Christen Smith, Anne McLaughlin, Melissa Smith, Joshua (Kayla) Smith, Tara (Roger) Beckley, Noel (David) Morgan, Bradley Coleman Smith, Blair (Michael) Adams and Kelly (Ray) Cranmore; great-grandchildren, Owen Coleman Smith, Bella Joy Beckley and Thad Beckley, Kaleb Smith, Liam Morgan, Maggie Morgan, Brayson Cranmore, Brady Adams, Piper Kate Adams, Riley Coleman Smith, Levi Smith and Tucker Smith; great-great-grandson, Thaddeus Coleman Smith; brother-in-law, Bob McAfee; sisters-in-law, Marjorie McAfee Smith and Carole McAfee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma. Burial will be a private service for immediate family and close friends. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m.
The family requests no flowers or food. You may make a donation if you wish to a favorite charity.
