Thelma Gibbs, age 96, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. Thelma was born on September 20, 1928 to the late John and Emma (Butler) Grady, in Goochland County, Virginia. After graduating high school, she worked in a variety of fields, with her last job as a Data Clerk Operator for the Department of Defense. She was married to William Clifton Gibbs, Jr., who passed prior to her.
Thelma was totally involved in church activities her whole life. She was a longtime member of various Southern Baptist Churches in the different locales that she lived. She taught Sunday School, and was the President of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). Thelma was also involved in Scouting as a Girl Scout Leader. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed crossword puzzles in her spare time, but outside of church and hobbies, she gave her all to her family. She was totally family oriented...known as a loving mom, and grandmother.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, William Clifton Gibbs, Jr.; her parents, John Nelson Grady, and Emma (Butler) Grady; and her son, William Carlisle Gibbs. Thelma is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Stephen) Judy; her son, John C. Gibbs; her grandson, Stephen P. (Julie) Judy; her grand-daughter Kimberly (Matthew) Liegl; and great-grandson, Gavin Liegl.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E. Main St, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, 43068. The family will gather at the funeral home, Pfeifer Woodyard Funeral Home at 10 AM, prior to proceeding to the cemetery. Chaplain Dennis Barnhart will be officiating.
