Thelma Gerene Lord, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2025, at the age of 96. Born and raised in Keystone, Oklahoma, on June 15, 1929, Gerene lived a life defined by love, faith, and dedication to family and community.
In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Hilton E. Lord, and together they built a beautiful life. In 1956, they moved to the New York region, where Gerene became a loyal and trusted bookkeeper at the Up-To-Date Clothing Store, a position she held for 35 years. Her commitment and integrity earned her the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Gerene was a founding lifelong member of Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, where her faith and service touched countless lives. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Hilton E. Lord; her parents Vernie and Lewis Kinney; and her brothers Charles Doyle Kinney and Jerry R. Kinney. Gerene is survived by her two children, James Lord and Susan Granata husband John Granata; her cherished grandchildren Joshua Lord, Thomas Kuchenreuther (Julia), Stephen Kuchenreuther (Victoria), Noël Granata and Sara Granata; and her adored great-grandchildren John Lord, Miles Kuchenreuther, and Claire Kuchenreuther.
Gerene's legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church in her memory.
