Theodore (Ted) James Hoerner Jr., DVM, of
New Orleans, Louisiana, entered into his eternal rest on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was 67 years old.
Born on July 3, 1957, Ted spent his childhood in New Orleans, graduating from Archbishop Rummel High School before earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University.
As an animal lover since birth, becoming a veterinarian was a lifelong dream for Ted. He began his career in New Orleans before opening his own animal clinic, Hoerner Veterinary Hospital, in DeRidder, Louisiana. There, Ted was able to devote more of his work to larger livestock, a special passion of his. 'Doc Hoerner' was known for his compassion and dedication to both his patients and their owners.
Ted was a vital member of both the DeRidder and veterinary communities. He served as president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association and the DeRidder Rotary Club, and as a member of the board of directors of Beauregard Memorial Hospital. He and his former wife, Colleen, raised their children on a small farm outside the city that became home to a herd of animals rescued through his animal hospital.
Ted found happiness in the outdoors, often spending weekends in a blind looking for the next turkey or white tail. He shared this passion with his children and friends. Ted is survived by his beloved children: sons Jeremy (Sarena) and Holden; daughter Kelsey; grandchildren Gemma, Kaylie, and Payton; brother Bryan (Diana); sisters Sharon Illg (Bobby), Barbara Bruno (Jim), Maria Taylor (Gary), and Kara Esquivel (Raul) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Theodore Hoerner Sr.
The family would like to thank the dedicated team of doctors and caregivers who guided Ted through his journey with Parkinson's, and Calcutta House of Hospice of Acadiana for taking loving care of him in his final days.
