Stephen Richard G'sell, age 59, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. Born in
New Orleans, Louisiana, Stephen was a lifelong resident of Metairie, a community he proudly called home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. G'sell, Jr. and Julia Eleanor G'sell.
Stephen is survived by his brothers, David G'sell (Julie) and Dan G'sell (Rosemary); his beloved stepson, Weston Holyoak (Lacey); nephews Hunter G'sell (Desiree), David G'sell, Jr. (Jordyn), Cameron G'sell, Christopher Wainwright (Jen), Corey Wainwright; and nieces Madeleine G'sell and Angie G'sell.
Stephen attended grade school at St. Edward the Confessor, then graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. His family were longtime members of Green Acres Country Club in Metairie, where Stephen excelled in diving. He competed citywide and proudly performed at the 1984 World's Fair, an experience he cherished.
In a prior marriage, Stephen was blessed with his stepson, Weston, whom he cherished deeply and supported with unwavering love and pride. Over the years, Stephen explored several careers before finding his professional home at Brick and Block Products in Metairie, where he worked in sales and built lasting relationships.
Stephen's infectious smile, warm personality, and genuine kindness made him beloved by all who knew him. He adored his nieces and nephews-and their children-and had a special gift for making each one feel as though they were his favorite. He grew up hunting with his brothers and continued that tradition throughout his life. He also loved trail riding and spending time on his tractor, cutting and discing fields. Above all, Stephen cherished the companionship of his constant and loyal pet, Hank.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Stephen's Celebration of Life at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive,
Metairie, Louisiana, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service to follow. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.
