Theron Allen Cromwell, Jr., 84
Theron Allen Cromwell, Jr. of Farmington Hills, Michigan passed away peacefully Friday, December 10, 2021 of complications of Cardiovascular Disease.
He was born July 4, 1937 in Columbus, OH to the late Theron A. Sr. and Colletta E. (nee Gatterdam) Cromwell and was raised in Columbus, OH. As a young child Theron loved to sing and was quite good at it. In 1947 he studied at the acclaimed Columbus Boy's Choir School. However, the following year the school relocated to New York City and he was unable to relocate due to his father's employment. In 1956 he graduated from East High School, Columbus, OH. He was athletic and was a member of the school track team. He also was active in his high school choir and theater programs. He then went on to study theology and music at the Lutheran Theological Seminary; Capital University, Bexley, OH. In June of 1964 he was ordained as a Lutheran minister at Zion Lutheran Church, Groveport, Ohio. Subsequently, he held pastorates at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Ridge, Suffolk County, NY and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI. He was pastor of Victory Lutheran Church, Detroit, MI from 1971 to 1979. He was the principle founder and Director of Victory Christian School, accredited K-12, in northwest Detroit. When his family was young, they would perform songs as the "Cromwell Family Singers" at different churches. Theron loved traveling and getting together with family. After leaving the church pastorate Theron spent many years traveling to visit family and friends in Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado, and other places out west. He was intrigued with the Native American cultures.
Theron had three children whom he adored: Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Jeremy.
Theron also enjoyed playing cards, checkers, and chess. He was a member of the Swedenborgian Church of the Holy City in Royal Oak, MI.
Mr. Cromwell is survived by sons: Jeff (Deb) Cromwell of Ladera Ranch, CA; Dr. John (Donna) Cromwell of Farmington, MI; and Rev. Jeremy (Angela) Cromwell of Demorest, GA; Sisters: Janet [Dr. Harold] Swaisgood, CA and Nancy [the late Jack] Wellman, MO. His grandchildren: Wednesday (Juan Manuel) Zambrano, WA; Jason Goodnow, CA; Eli (Betsy) Cromwell, MI; Lindsay Cromwell, FL; Ashlee (Hunter) Collins, TN; Nathan Cromwell, MI; Lily Cromwell, MI; Megan Cromwell, MI, and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol R. Wrubel.
He will be truly missed by his family and many dear friends.
We will gather together at St. John Lutheran Church, 23225 Gill Road in Farmington Hills, on Friday, April 1st, 2022, from 10:30 - 11:00 am. The memorial service will begin at 11 am.
