Thomas "Tom" Christian Asel, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 17, 2023, with his children by his side. He was born in Jefferson City on May 2, 1934; a son to the late Elmer and Luella (Edwards) Asel.
A third generation Asel family member to be born and raised in Old Munichburg, Tom in his youth would begin many days before school tending to the smokehouse and filling sausage and bologna casings for uncle Ralph Asel's butcher shop, known for its smoked meats and Asel "Garlic" Bologna on Madison Street.
Tom was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He was employed by Farmers Bank of Lohman as a loan officer for over 40 years and was known as a kind and generous person who would always look out for the best financial interests of his clients. Tom was a member of the National Rifle Association and also the Jefferson City Area Crimestoppers.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Thruston; son, David (Kaye) Asel; grandchildren, Sara (Jon) Bish, Stephanie (Matt) Morris, Christian (Kyla) Asel, Kimberly Asel, Kevin Asel (Lindsay Welch); and great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Charlie Bish, Sloane Morris, and Brynnlee, Brooklynn, and Beckham Asel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Luella; and brother, Bill Asel.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A Prayer Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Burial will directly follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation (P.O. Box 955423 St. Louis, MO 63195) or the Missouri School of the Deaf (505 East Fifth Street Fulton, MO 65251).
