Our beloved Thomas David Billingslea passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on November 17, 1955, in El Paso, Texas, to Robert "Bobby" and Nettie Carter Billingslea, owners of Carter's Flowers. Tommy and his three older brothers Andy, Johnny, and Jody grew up helping with the family business. He was an alumnus of Austin High School, had a passion for music and was an accomplished drummer. In the early '80s Tommy and wife Linda moved to the Hondo Valley where they built a life filled with love, family, and friends. For over 30 years, they owned and operated Bradley's Fruit Stand. He also owned a small café in the valley for several years.
His stories were legendary, reflecting his incredible memory and attention to detail. Tom was extremely knowledgeable regarding Hondo Valley's history and culture. He was a compassionate man who loved unconditionally, never met a stranger, and had a heart of gold. He had a deep and eternal love for his family and friends. An avid outdoors man, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and shooting as well as camping and hiking. His culinary skills were renowned, especially his signature smoked brisket. Tommy's home was the center for all to gather, eat, laugh and tell stories. He absolutely loved holidays. His larger-than-life love and personality earned him the nickname "Gramps" to the young and "friend" to many others. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda, and brother Andy. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, children Robert Billingslea and Kristin Billingslea, grandchildren Kevin (Bobbi) Billingslea, Dede Torrez, Christopher T. Torrez, Dwaine (Rebecca Johnson) Chavez, Linda Billingslea and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Gwenneth (Andy deceased) and brothers Johnny (Pam) and Jody (Sue) and a lifetime friend and "sister" MaryAnn Epperson (Alvah) Nilson. Special love and thank you to Frank Boren for years of loyal friendship, kindness and wisdom.
Tommy was many things to many people but most importantly he was a child of God. "For by grace are you saved, through faith." Rest in peace, Gramps. Your love and legacy will live on through the countless lives you touched. Tommy will be greatly missed until we join him in paradise.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Hondo Valley Volunteer Fire Department located at 10682 US 380 Hondo NM 88336.
