Thomas J. Carey passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Through the final years of his illness, Tom reconnected with his Catholic faith and was lovingly supported by his friends at St. Frances de Sales who visited him and brought him communion every week. His faith brought him peace.

His cantankerous personality was second only to his sweet tooth. His favorite joke, usually made while eating a handful of donuts, was that even God was not ready for him, masterfully justifying having another donut. There was no cookie, cupcake, or cream puff safe in his vicinity. At one point, he became convinced that eating Kit-Kats was helping him lose weight. Tom loved good food, especially smoked salmon, brie, and garden tomatoes paired with a delicious rose, followed by cupcakes or brownies, of course.

Tom loved watching football. He loved "The" Ohio State University football team, having graduated from St. Peter's high school in Mansfield, Ohio. He successfully brainwashed his three sons to become bucknuts, masterfully setting up an intergenerational domino effect whereby his grandchildren who grew up in Delaware, Maryland, and Long Island are similarly afflicted.

Tom was a life-long dog lover, and looked forward to visits at the nursing home from his beloved beagle, Bonnie. We are so grateful for the time we had with Tom, who never ceased to surprise us with his sharp intellect and his immense capacity to grow even during the last days of his life. We loved him and will miss him.

Tom is survived by his younger sister, his three sons and their spouses, his niece, his nephews, his beautiful grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
