Thomas Dapson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dery-Foley Funeral Home on Oct. 19, 2023.
Mr. Thomas F. Dapson, 60, passed away at home on October 14th, 2023 in Dalton, Massachusetts.
Born in Pittsfield on June 25, 1963, Tom was the son of the late David and Rita Dapson. He was a 1981 graduate of Taconic High School and later went on to study at Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, New York.
After receiving his optician's license in 1985, Tom was a practicing optician for 38 years between Dapson Opticians, Berkshire Eye Center, and most recently, Pittsfield Vision Associates. Throughout his career, he developed a loyal community of patients who were willing to follow him wherever he practiced.
Outside of the office, Tom found joy in the simple things: cooking, golf, Sunday football, classic rock, his perfectly-manicured lawn, and evenings on the porch with Sadie, his four-legged best friend. But above all else, Tom loved his family and always put their needs before his own. He was the true embodiment of selflessness.
Tom is survived by Susan Dapson, his loving wife of 32 years, as well as his sons, Joseph (Abigail) and Christopher. He also leaves behind his siblings: Matthew Dapson, Susan Russell (Chad), Laura White (Marshall), Diane Vetras, his mother-in-law, Constance Robinson, and his brother-in-law, Edward Robinson (Lisa). He will also be missed by several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Tom's family respectfully requests the omission of flower donations. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in his name to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of New York or the Dalton or Pittsfield Lion's Club and mailed to Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held at St. Agnes Church in Dalton on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor.

Tom was the best in so many ways. I learned so much from him about the optical world and life itself. He was bright, caring, fun and patient. He is and will be tremendously missed. He was a great teacher of how to manage and lead by example. I wish I could say thank you one more time.

Although I knew Tom´s sisters, I never met him until my son started playing baseball. He was the kindest man. Very kind and caring as we were raking the field for the start of the season.
He always stop to chat and see how the family was.
I will miss seeing your kind face and your genuine nature. I bet you already have your wings!.

Kay and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. Tom was always a class act and a gentle giant. It was always fun to enjoy Tom's company on the sidelines when our kids were playing travel soccer together. He always kept things in perspective and had a great sense of humor. We'll pray for the family during this challenging time of loss.

Tom was always so wonderful with my son when being fitted for glasses or contact lenses. He was the only one that we trusted. He will be very missed.

Dear Sue, Christopher and Joseph,
I was so saddened to hear about Tom´s passing. We loved having you as neighbors in Dalton. Tom was always so sweet and my Dad adored him. I´ll never forget when he helped us get our cat out of the tree. You are all in my thoughts and in my heart.
Much love, Sarah Newell (Miner)
