Thomas David Jr.
November 6, 1938 – June 24, 2025
With heavy hearts but abundant gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas David Jr., age 86, who entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2025, surrounded by the love that defined his remarkable journey on earth. Born in Washington, D.C. on November 6, 1938, Thomas was a man whose life was a testament to unwavering faith, boundless love, and an unwavering commitment to hard work and service to others.
Thomas attended St. John's College High School and Georgetown University class of 1960. For 47 years, Thomas served the City of Alexandria with dedication and integrity, building lasting relationships and earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike. His extraordinary work ethic was matched only by his commitment to treating everyone with kindness and dignity, reflecting the love of Christ in all his interactions. Thomas was the kind of man who always put others before himself, ensuring that his family was taken care of and that those around him felt supported and loved.
Thomas had a wonderful sense of humor that could light up any room and bring joy to even the most difficult situations. His quick wit and warm laughter were gifts he shared generously with family and friends. He found great peace and renewal in nature, particularly drawn to the water where he could reflect on God's creation and find tranquility. Whether by a lake, river, or ocean, Thomas felt most connected to the divine beauty of the natural world.
Thomas was a faithful member of Church of the Nativity in Burke, Virginia, where his faith community became an extension of his family.
Thomas lived his faith not just in words but in action, demonstrating through his daily life what it meant to love unconditionally, serve selflessly, and trust completely in God's plan. His legacy is written in the lives he touched, the hearts he encouraged, and the faith he shared with quiet strength and genuine compassion. Above all, he was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for and protect those he loved most.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Phyllis David, whose partnership in life and faith was a cornerstone of his joy. He leaves behind his cherished children: Thomas David III, Dr. Jessica David, and Rose David, each carrying forward his legacy of love and service. His grandson, Thomas David IV, was a special light in his life, representing the continuation of family traditions and values that Thomas held dear.
He leaves behind a family blessed by his love, a community enriched by his service, and a world made brighter by his presence. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life that exemplified the greatest commandments: to love God with all his heart, soul, and mind, and to love his neighbors as himself.
Thomas David Jr. has finished his earthly race with faith intact, and we find comfort knowing he has heard those precious words: "Well done, good and faithful servant." The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Harris and the team at Kaiser Permanente for their care and dedication.
