Thomas Toy Gee, age 77, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away peacefully in his home on April 12, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1947 in Pawtucket, RI and was the son of Chinese immigrants, Ah Shun (Ng) Gee and Kee Chu Gee. The immediate family he leaves behind are his daughter and son-in law Angel (Gee) Pechie and Christopher Pechie, grandchildren Ryan and Owen Pechie, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ellie Gee, his nieces Rebecca Nowak, Melinda Gee, Emily Gee, his cousins Jones Gee and Shirley Gee and his nephew Donald. He will be missed by countless friends, including Karen Lawrence.
Tommy graduated from Tolman High School in Pawtucket in 1965. He was a member of the swim team and was voted "Best Pal" and "Friendliest" by his classmates. He served in the Armed Forces in Vietnam, with an honorable discharge in 1970. He met his former wife, Marcia, and earned his BA at the University of Rhode Island, majoring in sociology. He was originally employed by the Ladd School in Exeter, RI but spent most of his career with the RI Department of Children, Youth, and Families. His kind heart, easy going nature, and love of driving was a good fit for DCYF and he enjoyed a long career – retiring in November of 2003. After retirement he spent several years in a small town in New Brunswick, Canada, but ultimately, he chose the Spring Hill, FL community as his final residence.
Tommy loved animals and had special memories with his dog Benny and later Libby. He was an excellent cook and delighted in reading recipes and watching cooking shows/videos. He especially enjoyed preparing and eating traditional Chinese meals. He gracefully navigated the role of a first generation American during a time period of racial sensitivity. He was extremely generous to others and a friend to all. He enjoyed bargain shopping and then giving away the items he purchased. He was an expert handyman with creative solutions to household issues. He had a quiet nature and preferred to listen to others rather than to talk. His best moments were spent clamming and quahogging in Salt Pond with his family, fishing (or watching others fish), gardening, and snowplowing.
It is Tommy's request that services are private and limited. Please consider a donation to the Vietnam Veterans of America or the food pantry at your local St. Vincent de Paul to honor his memory. His family would like to especially thank the wonderful residents in his Wellington neighborhood for their kindness and support to Tom, who was reluctant to ask for help, but was always grateful to receive it.
