Thomas E. Geherty, Jr., a life long resident of Princeton, NJ passed away on Friday, March 7th in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 101 years old.
Predeceased by his parents Thomas Sr. and Anna, and his wife Ann; he is survived by his children and their spouses, Thomas and Liz, Richard and Karen, Barbara and Robert, Chris and Joanne, Tracy and Kenneth, Ted and Diana, and Todd and Suzanne; as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Born in Princeton, Thomas remained a resident until his passing. He spent his younger years working on a family farm. One of his tasks, driving a horse drawn wagon to transport hay, started his life long love of horses. He eventually competed as a horseman in venues including Madison Square Garden and Saratoga Racetrack. While a senior at Princeton High School, he was recruited to work under J. Robert Oppenheimer on the Manhattan Project at Princeton University.
For most of his career, Thomas worked in sales and as a teamster at several companies including Kerns Beverages and Canada Dry. After retiring early, he rejoined the workforce at Princeton University in the facilities department for several years.
After retiring, Thomas and his wife Ann spent winters at their home on Pine Island, Florida where they enjoyed dining out and participating in many activities with their friends.
One of Thomas' greatest pleasures was camping at Lake George with his family. Introduced to the area at the age of 4 by his grandfather, Thomas was still camping at the age of 99 in his pop-up trailer. Thomas has passed this love down to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his legacy will continue for many generations in the future.
Thomas also had a love for fishing and boating, spending many weekends on his boat at the Jersey shore. He also was a long time member of the Princeton Rod and Gun Club.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 9:00am until 11:00am at The Mather Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Princeton Cemetery.
