Thomas Leslie Gilbert

Thomas Leslie Gilbert, age 66, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 07, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Thomas was born on March 08, 1959, in Atlanta, GA, to parents Earl E. and Tommie Anne (Phillips) Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, John Gilbert.

Right out of high school, he began a career as a machinist, a trade he devoted more than 50 years to, working hard and taking pride in what he built with his hands. Outside of work, his heart belonged to classic cars, especially his beloved 1976 Camaro. He spent countless hours working on cars, talking cars, and sharing that passion with his car club, the Old Country Cruisers, where friendships were built around chrome, engines, and shared stories. When he wasn't under the hood, he could often be found roller skating, something he truly loved and enjoyed well into adulthood. Whether in the shop, the garage, or the rink, he was happiest when he was moving, building, and doing what he loved.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Melissa Bartlett Gilbert; children, Tiffany Sappington (Tommy), Dillan Gilbert (Emily), Megan Wilkinson (Brandon), Christian Teston (Madison), Jordan Teston, and Andrew Teston; grandchildren, Jason, Henry, Reid, Cooper, and Sophie; brothers, Gene (Diane) Gilbert and Wayne (Michelle) Gilbert; sister-in-law, Pat Gilbert; aunt, Judy Sallis (Jim); many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A funeral service to honor Thomas' life will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, beginning 12:00 Noon, at Prospect Church at Oak Hill, 6752 GA-212, Covington, GA 30016. Interment will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service begins at the church.
