Thomas John Golab

It is with great sadness that on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 we announce the passing of Thomas J. Golab. He joins his wife Ivalee, who passed away in 2018. Tom is survived by his children, Thomas D. (Irene Bopp), William T. (Lori), and Dawn Marie, his grandson, Brian T., and his sister, Phyllis Golab, CSC. Tom was born in Ford City, PA to John and Rose Golab.

He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the George Washington University, followed by an M.S. in 1964.

As Senior Research Engineer at the National Biomedical Research Foundation at
Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Tom created biomedical and diagnostic equipment, including the world's first whole-body scanner, which was originally named the ACTA scanner and later shortened to CT scanner.

Tom was an avid table tennis player, winning dozens of ribbons, medals, and trophies, including a gold medal in the 2001 National Senior Olympics with his doubles partner, Ray Chen.

Relatives and friends may call at the Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Rd., Beltsville, MD on Thursday, November 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11007 Montgomery Rd., Beltsville, MD on Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. Interment Washington National Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
