Thomas (Tom) Gonzalez, age 73, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 31, 1951, in Laredo, Texas, to Tomas and Gloria (Martinez) Gonzalez, Thomas lived a life marked by dedication, love, and resilience.
In August 1978, Thomas married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Hernandez) Gonzalez, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of companionship and devotion. A proud graduate of the Class of 1971 from Luther Burbank High School, Thomas excelled in football, earning several awards recognizing his outstanding sportsmanship.
Thomas began working alongside his father in the family business shortly after graduation. His career path led him to Big Red Bottling Company, then into the printing industry with Triway, and later with Focus Direct, where he dedicated over 20 years before retiring in 2002.
Known for his strength, perseverance, and positive attitude, Thomas inspired everyone around him to never give up. His quick wit and appreciation for humor brightened many lives. As a dedicated member of TEAM WINGMAN, a cycling fundraising group for Multiple Sclerosis, Thomas contributed to raising over $1 million for the cause.
A true homebody, Thomas loved caring for his home, engaging in recycling projects, and preparing delicious meals for his family. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, his spirit of enthusiasm extended beyond sports. Above all, Thomas was a man of faith, deeply devoted to God and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He, his wife, and son were active members of Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship for over 20 years.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, and son, Thomas IV; his sisters Sylvia Diaz, Azeneth Dominguez, and Eunice Gomez; mother-in-law Tillie Hernandez; sister-in-law Isabel Camacho; Hope and Raymond Gonzalez; and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A service will follow on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with interment immediately following. Carlos Sandoval will officiate the service.
Special thanks to RFamily Medical and Dr. Betty Ramos Dubry for over 13 years of dedicated care. Gratitude is also extended to HNTS for their weekly home visits, including Nurse Iris, Nurse Nicole, Therapist Cameron, and Andrew, whose support and encouraging words meant so much. Thank you to Oncologist Dr. Jesse Medellin, the late Neurologist Dr. James Garrison, Cardiologist Moses Bucay, and PA Laura Garza and Jennifer Stuart Buchanan for their continued care.
May you all be blessed.
