Thomas Clay Holderfield, born on February 22, 1980, passed away on August 2, 2024. A graduate of Bowling Green High School in 1998, Clay went on to earn an associate degree from Western Kentucky University.
Clay had a lifelong love of sports. In his youth, he played baseball, soccer, basketball, and swam for the Bowling Green Country Club swim team. As an adult, he was a passionate fan of Kobe Bryant, University of Kentucky basketball, the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, the Tennessee Titans, and various soccer leagues.
Known affectionately as a "dog whisperer," Clay had a special bond with animals, particularly his dear dogs Kato, Yeti, and Rosie. He was also beloved by children, earning the nickname "Uncle Bubbles" from his nieces and nephews Kendall, Skyler, Carter, Nora, Hampton, Mac, Bo, and Madi for his exceptional way with them.
Clay's greatest joy came from helping others. He never met a stranger and always put others before himself. Known for his infectious and impish laugh, Clay had a knack for checking in on, encouraging, and lifting up those around him. His generosity was boundless; he would quite literally give someone the shirt off his back. Clay was a special soul, cherishing true friendship and love in the most amazing way.
Clay's heart was always on display, finding joy in the little things and bringing immense joy to his family. Though his passing leaves a void, he will live on in the hearts of the many lives he touched. His memory will be carried on by those who knew him, through acts of kindness and expressions of love.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Grover and Louise Holderfield, and his maternal grandfather, Raymond Reeder. Clay is survived by his grandmother, Lola Baker; his parents, Tommy (Emily) Holderfield and Judy (Kurt) Maier; his sisters, Taylor Hughey and Katie (Greg) Durr; his bonus brothers, Mark (Cole) Maier and Cole (Christie) Maier; and his nieces and nephews, Kendall and Skyler Hughey, Carter and Nora Durr, Hampton and Mac Maier, Bo and Madi Maier. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Yeti and Rosie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Clay's name be made to the Bowling Green Humane Society or Eastwood Baptist Church.
Clay's memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends, who will honor his legacy by continuing to check in on their loved ones and spreading kindness, just as he did. Memorial services will be Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Eastwood Baptist Church Fairview Campus. Visitation will be Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm at Eastwood Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.

Sending prayers for Clay´s family.
Clay was one of my students when I was McNeill School Librarian.
May God give you comfort in all the days to come. No loss compares with that of losing a child.
