Thomas R Ikard

Thomas "Richard" Ikard, 78, passed away on October 4th, 2024, in Las Cruces, NM.
Richard Ikard was born in El Paso, TX to Amzi and Winifred Ikard on February 23rd, 1946. He attended school at Jesuit High in El Paso, TX. He attended Jesuit College in California prior to joining the Army in 1965. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. He was a devout Catholic and read the Bible almost daily. Richard worked for many years for the family business at Ikard & Newsom Propane. Richard was known for his altruism towards the less fortunate, his brilliant mind, and his sense of humor. He was an outstanding fisherman, and he deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and family.
Richard Ikard is preceded in death by his father Amzi Ikard, his mother Winfred Ikard, his son Daniel Ikard, his sister Mary Salopek, his brother John Ikard, his brother Jimmy Ikard, his nephew Billy Salopek, his nephew Robert Ikard, his niece Mary Salopek, his great niece Clara Ikard, and his nephew Joey Arnold.
He is survived by his daughter Amanda Barela, his sister Catherine Odette, his grandchildren Tristan Coull, Bailey Wiles, Reese Barela, Ari Barela, Lee Ikard, Chandler Ikard, Patrick Ikard, Samantha Ikard, Jack Ikard, and countless nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Tristan Coull, Louie Salopek, Dickie Salopek, Michael Salopek, Paul Ikard, and Justin Ikard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to NAMI Southern New Mexico.
Viewing and Rosary will be held at 5pm on October 15th at La Paz Graham's In Las Cruces, NM, with Mass being held at Holy Cross the following day on October 16th at 10am officiated by Father Richard. Burial will follow at St Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Anthony, NM. He will be laid to rest near his beloved mother, Winifred Wareing Ikard, and his father Amzi Ikard. A reception will follow at La Posta in Mesilla, NM at 1pm.
