Thomas Joseph Johnson

Thomas Joseph Johnson died on July 5, 2023, after a brief illness. He was 66 years old, far too young to leave his family and many friends, who will remember him as the smart, cheerful, creative, and entertaining person he was.
Tom was born in Milwaukee on May 1, 1957, to Richard and Marilyn Johnson, but the heart of his growing-up years were spent in Barrington, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Iowa, where he was a part of its Writers Workshop. He wrote for television in Los Angeles, magazines all over the country, and as a business consultant. He had a passion for wine and wine-writing, which led him to achieve the Wine and Spirits Education Trust's Level 3 certification. He began training bartenders and laymen in the nuances of distilled spirits through his related venture, Aroma Academy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, who he met at University of Iowa and was so proud of; his sons, Judd Lowe (Lara) and Owen Carl; his granddaughter, Arsinoe; his siblings Jill Keeney (Doug), Richard (Leslie), Julia Mason (Phil), and James (Brooke); and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved. He was one of a kind. He filled any room he was in. His absence is noticeable already.
A memorial service will be at 11 am on Monday, July 10, at St. John Lutheran Church, 901 Breckenridge Lane, where he taught Sunday School and served several terms as president of the Church Council. Visitation will be before the service, at 9:30 am. Arrangements under the direction of Pearson's.
