Thomas Howard Johnson, age 59, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on December 15th, 2025, due to catastrophic injuries sustained from a felony DUI Hit-and-Run. Tom was struck by a car at 3:20 p.m., on October 22nd, 2025, while on his way home from work, while riding his electric bike. The impact broke numerous bones in his body, but the most detrimental was the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), to the frontal lobe of his brain. He spent 55 days in Trauma ICU as well as Neuro ICU at Memorial Health before his death.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth Johnson; and his sister, Mary Margaret Johnson. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Johnson Berry (Kenneth); two nieces, Stephanie Berry, and Jennifer Berry; a great-niece, Savannah Richardson and a great-nephew, Austin Osborne. Also included is his best friend of many years, Brian Gary (Cynthia), who was more like a brother.

Tom graduated in 1984 from Benedictine Military School at the top of his graduating class. He then went to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga., on a full academic scholarship, majoring in Psychology and was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. After graduation, Tom continued his education at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia Southern College, and Springfield College in Tampa, Florida, obtaining three Master's Degrees in Psychology, English and Organizational Management and Leadership.

Tom was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Hibernian Society of Savannah.

Tom had a brilliant mind with an insatiable quest for a lifetime of learning. He volunteered his time to support political candidates he believed in, tutored both young and old, and volunteered at the Humane Society because of his fondness of animals. Most of all, Tom was a true gentleman, with the biggest heart, finding the goodness in everyone he met.

Interment will be private, in the family burial ground located in Bonaventure Cemetery.
