Dr. Thomas W Joslyn, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on April 9, 2024, at North Iowa MercyOne Hospital. A private family celebration of life will occur at a later date.
Dr. Tom attended Clear Lake public school and graduated in 1947. He continued his education by attending Cornell University in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He completed his education and training in Dentistry at the University of Iowa, receiving his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree in 1953. He practiced his profession in Clear Lake, Iowa for 31 years. He was a member of the district, state, and national dental association.
Dr. Joslyn served 2 terms on the Clear Lake school board and was a life-long member of the Clear Lake Lion's Club. He was also an active participant in the Clear Lake Historical Society.
Dr. Tom always loved living in Clear Lake. He loved the lake and all the activities and celebrations during the year held there. He deeply cared for all of his patients. He cherished all the wonderful, life-long friends, who lived in the North Iowa area and through the United States. Through their generosity, Dr. Tom and his wife Janis Joslyn donated funds to the Clear Lake school system and established the Thomas and Janis Joslyn scholarship. To date, this scholarship has distributed over $109,000 to 45 Clear Lake High School graduates to continue higher education; to help them complete their professional and vocational careers. This scholarship will continue to help Clear Lake kids, financially, in completing their career paths.
After his retirement, Tom and Janis built a home in Destin, Florida and enjoyed the winter months there. They always were anxious to return to their beloved Clear Lake home and always looked forward to spending quality time with family and friends. Tom and Janis were passionately in love with one another. They both adored each other, and never spent time apart. They traveled the world together and were totally devoted to one another. Dr. Tom was a loving and caring parent to his four children; Thomas Joslyn (Susann) of Kailua HI, Dr. Paul Joslyn (Teresa) of Cresco, IA, Jane Gruis (Todd) of Clear Lake, IA, and James Joslyn (Pam) of Muscatine, IA. He loved and adored his 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.
Dr. Joslyn was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janis. He was also proceeded in death by his parents Dr. Albert and Adelaide Joslyn, a brother Haper Joslyn who dies in WW2, a sister Alberta Hall (Ranell), sister Kathryn Gambell, and a grandson Giles Joslyn.
Dr. Tom Joslyn and family request that any memorial be directed to MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City, Iowa, in his name. He will be missed by all who knew his gentleness, kindness, generosity, integrity, wonderful sense of humor, and genuine love for all people. We love and miss you. Dad pray for us.
