Thomas Edward Leonard, 80, of Federal Way, Washington, formerly of South Windsor, Connecticut, beloved husband of Frances Marie (Ondrick) Leonard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the VA Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut.

Born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, on April 19, 1945, Thomas was the son of the late Gordon and Lillian (Page) Leonard.

Thomas met and married the love of his life, Frances Ondrick, on May 30, 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Following his military service, Tom and Fran settled in South Windsor, where they raised their family. Tom enjoyed a long and successful career as a sales manager with Weyerhaeuser, dedicating 50 years of service to the company.

A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Tom was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. He was also an avid bowler and cherished the time he spent with friends and family.

In addition to his wife of more than 59 years, Frances, he is survived by his son, David Leonard and his wife, Hope, of Mount Vernon, Washington; his daughter, Kristen Leonard and her partner, Bruce Benson, of East Hartford; his grandchildren, Nicole Lopez and her husband, Efrain, and Raven Leonard; and his great-grandchildren, Carter, Ariella, and Amara, all of Mount Vernon, Washington. He also leaves his brother, Kenneth Leonard of Chicopee, Massachusetts; his sisters, Barbara Warren of Belchertown, Massachusetts, and Patricia Russo and her husband, Tony, of East Hartford; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Leonard, and his sisters, Theresa Tougas, Bertha LeMay, and Claire Carriveau.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., meeting directly at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff of the VA Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut.

I was a customer and friend of Tom for several years. He was the very best at what he did and was a great asset to the lumber business. RIP.
