Thomas Litterer

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Jacob Litterer, lovingly known as Tom, on January 3, 2025. Born on June 13, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Thomas was a beacon of empathy, love, support, and resilience, qualities that defined his exceptional character. Tom was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving his country proudly. He was also longtime employee for the Department of Defense, he managed supply contracts with the Navy Depot. His dedication to his work mirrored his commitment to his family, which he held most dear. A widower, Thomas was known for his heartfelt warmth and unwavering support, his resilience was an inspiration to all who knew him, particularly in the face of life's challenges.
In his retirement, Thomas found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved walking through his neighborhood. An avid swimmer, Thomas was a common sight at his health club pool, his strength and endurance admired by many. But perhaps his favorite pastime was losing himself in the pages of a science fiction novel, his imagination taking him to galaxies far away. Thomas is survived by his sons, Michael Litterer (Kristen) and Brian Litterer (Simna John), his grandchildren Adina, Madalyn, Julian, Dylan, Ruth and sister Kay Fritz. He was preceded in death by his father Charles, mother Gladys, and beloved wife Joan.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Church, 7701 Loretto Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19111. His service will follow at 10:30 am at the church. Thomas will be laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery with his wife Joan.
