Merlin was born on January 4, 1946, at the family farm rural Greene, the son of Louis & Mabel (Johnson) Litterer and entered into eternal rest on January 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. He received his education through 4th grade at Dayton #6 schoolhouse and graduated from Greene Community High School in 1964.
Merlin was united in marriage to Linda Kay Krumrey on July 31, 1965. They were married for 56 years until Linda passed in August of 2021. After retiring he drove a delivery route for Phelps Implement for 6 years. His favorite job of all was farming the family farm that he purchased in 1993 and farmed until his death with the help of his son.
Merlin was a faithful member of St. John's Pleasant Hill Church in rural Nashua where he served on the consistory and enjoyed playing dart-ball. Merlin enjoyed country music, playing 500 and sequence and spending time with his family. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Shellie (Craig) Olson, Campbellsport, WI; Travis (Tammy) Litterer, Greene, IA; Katie (Thomas) O'Loughlin, Independence, IA; six grandchildren & three great-grandchildren: Justin (McKennah) Litterer & children Lynlee & Ryker; Nathan (Jess Boebel) Olson; Ethan Bidwell & daughter Mia; Ashley (Ty Lindsley) Olson; Elijah Bidwell; Aaron Olson; siblings Wilma (Wayne) Schmitt, Charles (Margaret) Litterer, Don (Judy) Litterer, Loretta (Larry) Johnson, Carol (Neal Mattson) Herrmann, & Phyllis Litterer; brother-in-law Harley Lovik, many nieces, nephews & friends.
