AUGUSTA- It is with profound sadness that we announce that Thomas Michael Lowrie died unexpectedly at his home in Augusta, Maine on Sunday, December 22nd, 2024. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 69.
Born in May of 1955 in Pennsylvania, Tom joined the Navy at the age of 19 and served proudly as an electrician for thirteen years, becoming a Senior Chief Petty Officer, and was recognized for his leadership skills. He was proud of his service and often spoke fondly of the time he spent at sea, the ships he served on, and people he served with.
He retired from the Navy after the birth of his third child and settled with his family in Maine. He worked for several years at Statler Tissue in Augusta until the plant closed in 1995, and later worked for more than 25 years at Tyler Technologies in Falmouth until his retirement in 2021.
For the past year he had been volunteering his time as a Range Safety Officer at the Maine IFW Summerhaven Shooting Range in Augusta. He loved his time at the range, and would always come home talking about the people he met or the interesting guns and gadgets people had. This work brought him great joy.
Tom enjoyed reading, learning, cooking, and spending time on the lake. He also liked tinkering with things - his latest project of an antenna he was building that he intended to mount on the side of the house remains unfinished. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, and his absence will be felt for the rest of our lives. His wisdom, intelligence, guidance, and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Joan (née Flanagan); his sons Thomas II and Robert; his daughter Colleen; his siblings, Paula Higgins (née Lowrie), Richard Lowrie, and Mary Lou Flickinger (née Lowrie); and many other beloved family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents William "Bud" and Jane (née Kelly) Lowrie, and his in-laws Robert and Anne Patricia (née Kane) Flanagan.
Tom's visitation will be held on Friday January 3 from 2-4pm, with a funeral service to follow immediately after at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment and military honors will be held at Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Wounded Warriors Project or Tunnel To Towers.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home website, www.khrfuneralhomes.com

I served with Tom on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. I´m proud to have been able to call him shipmate and friend. Fair winds Tom. See you on Fiddler´s Green.

Tom was a shipmate with me on the Ike. I really looked up to him. I tracked him down a few years ago and we spent a nice afternoon together. He was an unforgettable character back in the day and I will see him again someday.
