Thomas Joseph Maio
July 17, 1963 – April 14, 2025
Thomas Joseph Maio, 61, of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 14, 2025, at Guthrie Corning Hospital.
Born in Corning, NY, on July 17, 1963, Tom was the beloved son of Louis and Nellie Maio. He was a 1982 graduate of Corning-Painted Post West High School. Afterward, he moved to Florida-the place he loved most-where he spent many years working in hotel and office management.
Tom was known for his big heart, infectious laughter, and creative spirit. He had a passion for boating, gardening, landscaping, dancing, and collecting antiques. But above all, he cherished his family and his loyal furbabies-Alex, Lady, and Rocky.
He is survived by his brother, Louie Maio of Corning; and his sisters: Bonnie (Ron) Maio-Horton of Missouri, Antonia Maio of Corning, Cecelia Maio of North Carolina, Christine Maio of Pennsylvania, Jenny (Shannon) Maio of Smithfield, VA, Katherine (Don) Maio-Peterson of Lindley, and Cherrie Maio of Painted Post.
Tom was also a proud and loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews: Eric, Brandon, Cassie, Tyler, Ondrea, Kevin, Kyle, Cody, Brittanie, Gavin, Graysen, Jadan, Christopher, Dominick, Donny, Megan, Angelena, Samantha, and Gracie. Each of them held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Nellie Maio, and his brothers, Jimmy and David.
Though his passing brings great sorrow, Tom's warmth, laughter, and love will live on in all who knew him. In his memory, we share this poem-a message from his heart to yours:
Remember Me
Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow,
But remember me in every tomorrow.
Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles-
I've only gone to rest awhile.
Though my leaving brings pain and grief,
Know that I've found peace and sweet relief.
So dry your eyes and remember me,
Not as I am now, but as I used to be.
I will remember you, each and every one,
And watch over you when the day is done.
Understand, deep in your hearts,
I've only gone to rest, not far apart.
As long as I have the love of you,
I'll live within your hearts-forever true.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church in Corning, NY. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom's name to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron Street, Bath, NY 14810, or online at https://fingerlakesspca.org/donate.
