Thomas Markley Obituary

Thomas Russell Markley, born on August 30, 1940, and who passed away on August 27, 2025, leaves behind a profound legacy filled with love, service, and a zest for life. He was the beloved husband of Susan (nee Bobrow) Markley for 60 years, and a devoted father to his daughters, Lizabeth Markley (Robert Opdenaker) and Jennifer Markley Imperato (Anthony, Jr.). He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Ava and Maya Imperato, who brought him unparalleled joy as he witnessed their growth into beautiful, talented, and thoughtful young women.

Thomas was raised in Ardmore, PA and graduated from Lower Merion High School. He attended Villanova University where he earned a BS in Economics in the College of Commerce and Finance. He later earned an MBA degree in Finance from Drexel University. In 1966, he passed his CPA exam and began working at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell.

However, his career really took off when he joined CDI Corporation in 1971, where he eventually became a Senior VP/Controller. After retiring from a successful 30-year career at CDI, Thomas continued to be a distinguished member of his community, dedicating numerous hours to volunteering. He served as a board member at the Grange Estate Historical Museum, Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals, and Radnor Memorial Library. For over 10 years, he continued to give back to the community by volunteering his time to assist seniors and those in need as a tax return consultant for AARP.

Thomas was a man of many interests and passions. He found joy in woodworking, reading, listening to classical music and going to the local dog park with his beloved poodles. A long-time season ticket holder at the Philadelphia Orchestra, he delighted in the beauty of live music. His commitment to fitness was evident as he faithfully worked out five days a week at Club La Maison in Wayne, running and walking the track.

Travel was another great passion of Thomas's life. He embraced foreign travel wholeheartedly, delighting in immersing himself in diverse cultures. His favorite destinations included Africa, South America, China, Cambodia, the Middle East, Japan, Europe and Russia, each trip enriching his life with stories and experiences that he cherished.

Thomas's journey began with his loving parents, Kennard and Miriam (nee Ney) Markley, who have predeceased him, along with his brother, Milton K. Markley, and his sister, Judith M. Rhodes.

Thomas will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched through his kindness and generosity. He will be remembered as a man who truly embraced life, touched the hearts of many, and shared his profound zest for living with all who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones in the days to come.

Visitation for Thomas will be held at Donohue Funeral Home - Wayne, located at 366 W. Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA 19087, on September 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with personal reminiscences to be shared during and immediately following.
