Tom and I were in ministry together at Blessed Sacrament School in Washington,DC. Tom was an extremely kind man who was committed to his ministry, dedicated to the needs and care of his parents and deeply devoted to his loving God.
I enjoyed seeing Tom´s enthusiasm for coin collecting...a successful find of "just the right one" would delight him.
I so admired Tom and will always be grateful for his gentle Presence and loving Support. He was a Light of Goodness and Compassion. Shine on, Tom. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

To Tom´s family my deepest condolences. Tom was an amazing person who I am honored to call a friend. For so many years after college we stayed in touch and he was so supportive of my daughter. He was a gave so much to so many. I wish you strength in coming days. This is a tough loss.

Mr. McCann was one of the most beloved teachers Blessed Sacrament of Washington DC has ever had. He shared his humor, kindness and generosity everyday with his students.
He knew how to make learning fun and enjoyable, the use of his world ball was a particular favorite. A struggling student was never left behind, and multiple choice questions could always be narrowed to two options quickly. He often gave his lunch hour to enjoy a Jeopardy rerun with a handful of students during my 7th and 8th grade years. I appreciate every hello passed along through the years. Mr. McCann will be dearly missed by many.

Mr. McCann was a towering figure for so many of us in the BSS class of 2004. His dry wit, snappy comebacks, and deadpan delivery made an instant impression on us. His first year of teaching wasn´t easy- in quick succession he shepherded us through 9/11, the DC sniper, and the anthrax scare. As a teacher at Gonzaga, I made sure to ask every 8th grade shadow from Blessed Sacrament to say hello to him and enjoyed sharing stories with all the BSS grads at Gonzaga. We have lost a great teacher and a great man.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I met Tom in college. He was a very intelligent guy and always very witty, considerate, and adaptable. I cherished the fact that we stayed in touch for so many years after college. He was a great conversationalist and shared some wonderful insights from where he lived, his travels, and his experiences as a middle school teacher. His insights have helped me as I navigate raising a teenage girl.
I know Tom had so many plans ahead and I believe was going to travel this summer for his volunteer work. He will be missed greatly. RIP, Tom
