Thomas Michael McCarter, 72, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center South, on December 25, 2024. A native of St. Augustine, Thomas was the youngest son of Robert and Margaret McCarter.
Thomas graduated from St. Joseph Academy where he played football and basketball. He then joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. Upon returning to St. Augustine, he worked for the City of St. Augustine Public Works Department and was a sales representative for a restaurant supply and equipment company. His hobbies were fishing, golf, gardening, and cooking.
After retiring and due to MS health issues, he moved into the Clyde Lassen Veteran's Home on SR 16 in St. Augustine. There he was involved with the Residents' Council and served on leadership committees. He had been an avid gardener and enjoyed helping to take care of the plants in the courtyard area. The family would like to thank everyone at Clyde Lassen for their dedication to all their residents.
He is survived by sisters, Margaret Connor, Nonie Braddock, Kathleen Fallon, and Cecilia (Richard) Truesdale. A brother, John (Laurie) McCarter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Pellicer; brothers, Robin and David McCarter.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4th, at 9:00 am in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, 38 Cathedral Place. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you donate to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257; or, to your favorite charity.
