Thomas J. McCarthy

Thomas John McCarthy, age 55, of Levittown, NY passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2025. Loving father to Shannon (16) and Michael (14) and husband to Christine (Hettenbach) McCarthy, Tom is survived by his parents Genevieve (Delaney) and Joseph McCarthy, and his brothers James (Erin) and Brian (Sabrina).
Tom was born on November 2, 1969 and raised in Williston Park, NY. He graduated from Herricks High School and received his bachelor's degree from New York institute of Technology. At the age of 23 Tom bought his own business. He took a struggling deli in Mineola and completely turned it around, renovating the space and transforming it into a successful establishment with great food and service. After he sold the deli, he worked for the family business, Adelphi Delicatessen for over 20 years. He was a tremendous help to his brothers' Brian and Jim. He knew how to get things done, especially with catering orders, and he was always proud of what he accomplished and found joy in his customers.
Tom had a big heart, a smile that always said I am happy to see you, and a desire for everyone around him to have a good time. Tom found great joy in gardening, especially when he could get his children involved. He could not pass up going to the beach to see the waves before a big storm and couldn't wait for each snow storm to start. Tom shared his love of music with Shannon and Michael making sure they knew Rush was the best and he attended more concerts of Yes, Asia, Genesis and others than we could count. Tom's love of horse racing and all sports took him on yearly trips to Saratoga, Mets games and his children's competitions.
Above all else, he was most proud of his kids, Shannon and Michael. He spoke often of how accomplished and respectful they are and of their achievements in school, Shannon's Irish step dancing and Michael's lacrosse.
He touched many lives during his short time here with us.
